CAP Success Stories
The Egyptian NGO Support Center has experienced a great deal of success through their innovative concepts and their dedicated work. The flourishing collaboration with the private sector and international corporates seek to build and develop Egyptian civil society, specifically issues that are of great concern to each respective community. Since February in 2005, the ENGOSC has collaborated with over 300 local NGO’s and has successfully reached a great deal of goals that have benefited Egyptian civil society and enlightened local communities of the alarming issues that need attention. Also, a variety of suggestions and databases are developed as to propose the different measures that could resolve these issues.

Corporate & NGOs Collaboration
The ENGOSC has several programs that encourage and enable such innovative collaborations between NGO’s and local businesses. One such curriculum is the Corporate Awards Program (CAP). CAP provides cash awards on an annual basis to outstanding Egyptian NGO’s that perform well in their sector or field. The awards are used in turn by these NGO’s to finance and implement their projects and programs services to the community. The purpose of this collaboration and assistance is to emphasize the importance and give greater support to the role of the private sector in supporting the social and economic development of Egyptian society through partnering with NGO’s and civil society organizations. Representing such success is the funding CAP has provided to NGO’s and local businesses. In the years 05/06 there was a L.E. 30,000 grant distributed to each of the 7 governs and in present, due to the great success of the program, the grant money has increased to a staggering L.E. 50,000 that is to be distributed to each of 5 governs. The increased funding intends to aid and support projects in exceptional organizations as more can be accomplished with the increased grant money.

Real Successful Examples
Through successful cooperation and sponsorship from prominent and international organizations such as Vodafone and Orascom, CAP has productively created a bridge between Egyptian NGO’s, the private sector and their local communities in an aim to improve specific matters that need resolving. Such issues can range from health toeducation to gender environmental concerns. Demonstrating such collaboration is the Fayoum Association for Organic Plantation for Export which was sponsored by Vodafone. This 9 month project received L.E. 30,000 of which was distributed to the region of Fayoum where farmers were consuming dangerous amounts of insecticides in their fields and thereby exposing local civilians to a great health risks and consequently, endangering the environment. However, through CAP, a successful general conference with the Fayoum governor and colleagues specifically addressed the problem at hand and presented the results of the advocacy campaign and accredited the recommendations. As a result, a database on alternative biological insecticides and how to obtain them as well as how to use and store them was established as a means of developing and finding healthier and better alternatives to their agricultural environment.

CAP has also successfully cooperated with the Psychological Health Association in Aiatt. The aim of this 6 month project sponsored by Novartis Pharmaceuticals and receiving a L.E. 30,000 grant was to improve the conditions and health policies of psychological and mental health in general, specifically among women. Through workshops and seminars as well as a thorough evaluation of the current system, proper precautions were implemented as a means of improving the mental health concerns in Aiatt. The project proceeded to hold general conferences for health, natural, public and local leaders including NGO’s and civil society associations to advocate for integrating women’s psychological mental health in the country health plan. In this scope, other successful outcomes were recognized. For the first time, constituency leaders, official leaders, specialists and media people that gathered in one place to agree to implement common objectives that aimed to support and encourage women/female health services, specifically psychological and mental health and to add such a program to the national health plan. This project received a considerable amount of attention from the media and is continuously developing.

CAP has also aided and been involved in the Hope Village Project in Alexandria. The purpose of this 6 month project with a grant of L.E. 30,000 was to integrate special needs children with the elderly. Through workshops, the project focused on integrating semi-disabled children with the elderly in the community, based on a criteria that they range between 55 and 65 years of age. The workshops continued to include various activities to measure the quality of interaction and investigated the benefits of the mutual relationship. The integration process demonstrated a greater level of well-being among both generations through their many interactional programs including the arts, sports and education. Such innovative social interactions have proven to be largely successful and will hopefully influence other health care officials to implement similar programs.

One of CAP’s greatest achievements 05/06 was sponsored by the Egyptian American Bank. The Small and Medium Industries Development Association in Port Saied aimed to encourage new prospects for smaller industries in Port Saeid. Granted L.E. 30, 000 and lasted for a period of 6 months and is continuously developing and achieving greater goals. The purpose of this collaboration is to raise awareness and advocacy to the small scale investors concerning the rights and law paragraph 141/2004 stating that allows laborers to work and operate in supporting middle products. Small scale investors are encouraged to invest in the supporting products via medium and large industries. This program aimed and successfully enabled small and medium industries to be more self-reliant in their production rather than export goods and materials from other countries.

CAP's Vision for Continuity
In the future, CAP hopes to continue to evolve and cooperate with more NGO’s and international cooperation’s to develop more innovative ideas and more effective ways of developing local communities in Egypt. Its current success has encouraged better prospects and a brighter outlook for upcoming opportunities. Such progress and success will continue to prosper and will hopefully continue to see results gained from future collaborations with local businesses and NGO’s.
